Council Plans To Modernise Cemetery Services
Seeking residents' views on how to develop the service
Hounslow Council is consulting on its draft strategy to improve and modernise cemetery services in the borough.
The council owns and manages nine cemeteries and four churchyards, each presenting different challenges, and is seeking residents’ views on how to further develop the experience and service.
The draft 10-year cemetery strategy aims to explore:
-The protection of cemeteries and burial provision for present and future
generations of residents
-Whether there is sufficient burial capacity for residents and to meet
diverse community needs
-The provision of accessible and modernised services for all
-The maintenance of cemetery grounds and assets
-Cemeteries as an integral part of the green infrastructure and their
contribution to the borough’s habitat and heritage value
-The provision of affordable and self-sufficient services.
-The council’s commitment to delivering the strategy’s action
plan, once the consultation period is complete, will ensure that the service
will remain relevant and fit for purpose for current and future generations,
while ensuring future burial provision is safeguarded.
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “We value the feedback of our residents and will take on board with careful thought and consideration the views and comments we receive. The strategy, once complete, will incorporate the differing needs of cemetery services within our borough across diverse local communities and faith groups. It will also explore ways in which we can be resilient to future changes such as demographics and wide ranging religious values, which, along with other factors, are likely to have an impact on the way we deliver our services.”
Residents can have their say online until the closing date of 21 March.
