Simple precautions to keep your home safe while you're away
As thousands of holidaymakers get away for some rest and relaxation, Hounslow Council and local police have urged people to take some simple precautions to keep their homes safe.
Hounslow’s hot tips to beat the burglars include:
• Close and lock all your doors and windows, even if you are only going out for a few minutes.
• Make sure UPVC doors are properly locked with a key.
• Make sure the side and/or back gate is locked.
• Lock your shed or garage.
• Make sure that any valuables are out of sight.
• Leave some lights on if it will be dark before you get home.
• Don’t leave your car keys or ID documents near doors, windows or your letterbox.
Cllr Richard Foote, cabinet member for community safety, said: “I would urge anyone going on holiday to take these simple safety measures to keep your home safe and give you some peace of mind while taking a hard earned rest.”
Superintendent Sally Benatar of Hounslow Police said "We know that burglary has a huge emotional impact on victims and we are working hard to arrest and bring to justice the people who burgle your homes and handle stolen goods. Please help us reduce crime by following this security advice."
