First on the spot fine issued to woman in Hounslow
A Hounslow woman has received an £80 on-the-spot fine as part of Hounslow Council and its partners' crack down on litter louts across the borough .
The woman was issued with the fine after police and Hounslow Highways’ community environment officers spotted her dropping litter in Manor Avenue, Hounslow.
It was the first time Hounslow Highways officers have issued a fine for littering.
Councillor Colin Ellar , deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, said: “No-one has a right to spoil our streets. I hope this sends out a clear message that Hounslow Council will not tolerate litter louts.
“If you are caught dropping rubbish on our streets, you could be handed an £80 fine.”
The fine was issued as part of a joint street cleaning and anti-flying tipping operation involving Hounslow Council, Hounslow Highways and the police, which was carried out in Brentford and Hounslow on the 27 and 28 of November.
Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “Our officers will be out more often to deter people from littering and dumping waste illegally. It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep their surrounding environment clean and we need to reinforce this. Issuing fines will help to achieve a cleaner, greener borough.”
Chief Inspector Rob Weir from Hounslow Police said: “We have listened to the concerns of local residents who have consistently told us that littering is affecting their quality of life.
“The local authority police team and Hounslow Highways have secured the first conviction as we embark on a joint operation to robustly enforce littering offences.
“Our priority is to respond to local residents concerns - whatever the nature of those concerns - and take effective action.
