There will soon be sixteen areas for Stop And Shop
Local MP Mary Macleod has welcomed Hounslow Council's announcement of free 'stop-and-shop' parking for half an hour. The MP has been campaigning on the issue for some time and has urged the Council to implement the scheme in time for Small Business Saturday next month
The scheme is to be rolled out across Hounslow on all designated shopping streets with pay and display, following a decision by the council’s Cabinet this week, (Nov 5).
The move follows the announcement of two new shopping parades in Chiswick - Devonshire Parade and Turnham Green Terrace – being added to the 14 currently in operation around the borough.
Councillor Ed Mayne, cabinet member for community safety and regulatory services, said: “The stop and shop scheme is proving popular and we will be rolling this out across the borough. This solid commitment is about being fair to drivers, shoppers on the hop and supporting small businesses.”
Mary said: “I am extremely pleased that Hounslow Council have listened to the concerns of local people and businesses by implementing a 30-minute free parking policy across the Borough. This is something I have campaigned on for a long time and I know that shops, traders and residents will be grateful to the Council for listening to the concerns I have been raising on their behalf.
“As well as Hounslow Council, I would like to thank everyone who has helped champion this campaign, including local residents, Chiswick Councillors and businesses. I look forward to hearing more details from the Council on when we can expect the scheme to be introduced. It would be fantastic if this could be in place in time for Small Business Saturday on December 7 th”.
