Continues to tackle rogue landlords in the borough
The council continued its crackdown on illegal developments last night (Oct 4), as councillors last night voted to take enforcement action in 16 illegal developments, including nine illegal outbuildings.
Enforcement notices will be issued to the owners of the properties where planning offences have taken place. This means the owners have to take action to remedy the breaches, or face prosecution.
As well as the nine illegal outbuildings, councillors agreed to take action against illegal extensions, illegal hoardings, as well as a garage basement being and a former telephone exchange that were each being used as illegal accommodation.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration at the council, said:
“This is the highest number of cases I’ve ever seen at the enforcement committee, and shows the great work being done to identify breaches, and take action against them.
“The number of cases of illegal outbuildings we have seen shows that our rogue landlords team are really making inroads into this issue across the borough.
“By taking action we are sending out a strong signal to those who seek to flout the rules - we will find you and take whatever action necessary for you to comply with the law.”
