Dog Control Orders Come into Effect

Scoop that poop or you could now face a fine

Dog owners who fail to pick up their pet’s faeces could be landed with an £80 on-the-spot fine as new controls come into effect today (Monday, 19 August).

The Dog Control Orders will now be effective Hounslow borough-wide, following public consultation earlier in the year and the implementation of a trial in Brentford.

Dog owners will also be required to put their dog on a lead when asked and the number of dogs that can be walked by any one person at a time is limited to four.

Cllr Pritam Grewal, cabinet member for communications and communities, said: “We have introduced these borough-wide controls as a direct result of residents raising their concerns with us.

"I want to make it absolutely clear that the vast majority of dog lovers have nothing to fear.

"Only owners of dogs who are acting aggressively or not on a lead on a busy road are likely to be required to put and keep their dog on a lead.”

The Dog Control Orders will fine owners for:
• Failing to remove dog faeces
• Not putting and keeping a dog on a lead when directed to do so by an authorised officer
• Taking more than a specified number of dogs onto land
• Permitting a dog to enter land from which dogs are excluded.
