Demand for places means local schools need to expand
Consultations will start in September on plans by Hounslow Council to expand six schools in the borough from September 2014. Grove Park Primary in Chiswick is included in the list and councillors have agreed plans to expand Brentford school Lionel Primary.
In September, the council will be consulting on plans to expand : Beavers Primary School, Hounslow Heath Infant School, Hounslow Heath Junior School, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School (Isleworth) and St Paul’s CE Primary.
Lionel Primary is one of 15 schools being expanded to meet expected demand for primary places in 2014.
There will be more school places for local children in Brentford as councillors have agreed to plans to expand a popular local school.
A new two-storey building will be built for Lionel Primary School which will contain six classrooms, allowing the school to increase from two to three forms of entry.
Councillors agreed to grant planning permission for the scheme, and works will begin in January in order to have the new classrooms ready to take additional pupils in September 2014.
Cllr Tom Bruce, cabinet member for education and human resources at the council, said:
“There is a significant demand for primary school places in the Brentford area, and this will help us make sure parents have more choice of schools for their children.
“It’s a good design that is sensitive to its location, and won’t lead to any loss of playing fields.
“We are working hard to meet the demand for places across the whole borough, and are in the process of expanding 15 primary schools in time for September 2014.
“We will soon be consulting on expansion plans at five other schools to make sure we are doing all we can to provide places where parents want them.”
