Councillors to discuss draft plan on 15-year planning strategy
Residents, businesses and developers will soon be able to give their views on a 15 year planning blueprint for the borough, if councillors agree draft plans.
If approved, a six-week public consultation on Hounslow Council’s policy options for the Local Plan, which outlines how the borough could be developed up to 2030 and includes potential sites for 7,800 new homes, will begin on 14 June. The councillors will discuss the issue at the council meeting on Tuesday (June 4th)
The plan sets out a number of options for potential development across the borough, and highlights areas for regeneration and investment including Brentford and Hounslow town centres.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for planning, regeneration and housing at the council, said:
“The last 15 years have seen some dramatic changes in some parts of the borough, but we know there are other areas crying out for regeneration.
“This plan is the blueprint for any changes, setting out what we expect from developments in an area. It also sets out locations for potential new homes for families, where facilities such as schools should be built and where shops and services should be provided.
“But the local plan isn't just about building, it’s about preserving areas that we want to keep as they are, and protecting and improving the local environment.
“With such a wide scope, stretching over so many years, it’s vital we get as many people as possible to let us know what they think of the options we have come up with - it will help shape the plans before they are submitted next year.”
The draft policy options for the local plan will be published on the council’s website from 14 June and people will have until 26 July to give their views.
