Hounslow Council say more than eighty per cent got first choice of school
Hounslow Council says it has beaten the London figures for 'first choice' primary school admissions. The latest figures show that 83.3 per cent of parents in the borough received their first choice of primary school, compared to 80.6 per cent across London.
Every child whose parents applied on time has been offered a place at one of the borough’s local primary schools.
The proportion of parents receiving one of their top three choices rose to 94.8 per cent (92.2 per cent across London) and 97.3 per cent were offered a place at one of their six preferred schools (95.1 per cent across London).
The news comes as parents are receiving letters confirming their child’s place in reception class of local schools starting in September.
Across Hounslow, 83.3 per cent of parents received their first choice of primary school, compared to 80.6 per cent across London.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for education and housing at the council, said: “Local parents know our primary schools are doing a brilliant job for our children, and demand for places is always high.
“We’ve worked hard to make sure that we have enough capacity to meet this demand, and will carry on working with schools to make sure we have enough places for the future.”
To apply for a school in Hounslow, parents fill in a single application form even if they are applying to schools in more than one borough. Then put down up to six schools in order of preference and submit the form to the council by the deadline in January. Applications are then considered and a place is offered at the highest preference available.
