Gunnersbury Park Gets Playground Makeover
From toddlers to teens, play areas will be transformed
Children visiting Gunnersbury Park this summer will be able to enjoy fantastic new equipment, following a £215,000 investment by Hounslow council.
Work has now begun on transforming the play area, which will see new equipment for children of all ages.
Cllr Ajmer Grewal, cabinet member for leisure and public health, said: “ “A lot of work has been done to make sure we’re not just replacing outdated equipment, but creating a space for families to come and play in a safe, but stimulating, area.
“It’s really important for us to make sure children have the chance to get outside with their parents and friends to play, explore and do the fun things children do.
“We have worked closely with parents and local groups to make sure that the improvements reflect the character of the wider park, and they are designed to the highest standards.
“Once finished, the local community will have a wonderful play area for parents and their children to enjoy for years to come.”
The adventure play area will be divided into three zones so that the experience becomes more challenging as children progress to more demanding equipment.
The boating-themed younger children’s zone has taken inspiration from the nearby lake. The play equipment has been chosen to provide younger children with a range of play experiences such as swinging, spinning, rocking, crawling and sliding.
The junior zone will include a tree-house with a gothic castle-themed design, inspired by the tower in the park grounds. It will also include a rope swinger, star swing, bridges, tunnel, activity net and a cableway. Children will be encouraged to use their imaginations to create their own play experiences with the additional of a mound and boulders to clamber over.
The teen zone offers a range of challenging items including a dynamic climbing frame with a banister slide, an overhead roundabout, a double basket seat swing and two rocking items placed side by side to add a competitive edge. There will also be facilities for skating and ballgames.
The path that links the play areas is being refurbished to make sure there is access to the different play features, whatever the weather. Seating has also been strategically placed at various points throughout the site so that parents can relax whilst children play.
The work at the site began this week, and is expected to be completed by mid-June.
