Hundreds of young people across the borough took part in scheme
Hundreds of young people from all over the borough are receiving their Duke of Edinburgh’s awards this week.
Due to the sheer number of young people taking part in the scheme, the awards are spread over two nights – at Hounslow Manor (12 February) and at Gunnersbury Catholic School the following night.
More than 700 young people from the borough’s secondary schools, youth centres and other community groups will be receiving their Silver or Bronze Awards.
Cllr Lily Bath, cabinet member for children’s services at the council, said:
“It is inspiring to see so many young people who have made such a positive contribution to Hounslow.
“With the wet summer last year, everyone who completed their expeditions has certainly earned their award!
“While these awards recognise their achievements, the young people take away much more than a certificate.
“The work they have put in to helping local projects has shown them, and those whom they helped, what a fantastic asset they are for the borough, and they should be immensely proud, as I am, of what they have done.”
The council runs The Duke of Edinburgh's Award to provide an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development for young people, which is of the highest quality and widest reach.
The award can be undertaken at all three levels (gold, silver and bronze) via secondary schools, youth centre and the open award centre in the borough.
Hounslow also runs a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme for young people with Special Educational Needs, known as DofE Stars.
