Changes may mean three new local constituencies
Hounslow Council is urging residents to get involved in a consultation which will shape parliamentary constituency boundaries in future elections.
Following an initial consultation period in September 2011, the independent Boundary Commission for England is now consulting on revised proposals for new Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England.
Under the proposed changes which impact on the borough, three new constituencies will be created in addition to the existing Brentford and Isleworth constituency, one covering Hayes and Feltham, one covering Southall and Heston and one which includes Hampton.
Cllr Sue Sampson, Hounslow’s cabinet member for performance and customer care said:
“While the proposed changes to constituency boundaries will affect the whole of England, there will be a particular impact on Hounslow.
“If the proposals are adopted, the borough will be split across four constituencies that no longer match our borough boundaries, so it’s important that residents have their say in what will be the biggest shake up of electoral constituencies in a generation.
“It is clear to this administration that having MPs who are cross-borough may have a detrimental effect to their ability to properly represent residents.”
The 2013 Review of Parliamentary constituency boundaries will introduce substantial change in England, reducing the number of constituencies from 533 to 502 and ensuring that each constituency has a similar number of registered electors.
