Senior Councillors In The Hot Seat

As residents took the chance to grill them over a range of local issues

Senior councillors were in the hot seat on Tuesday evening (2nd December) as residents took the chance to ask them directly about a range of local issues.

Around 100 people attended Leaders Question Time at the Civic Centre to grill councillors on subjects ranging from child protection to support for small businesses.

The event was organised by the council’s overview and scrutiny committee to give people the chance to question a panel of councillors on any subject they like.

Cllr Thompson, said, “We often wonder why people aren’t interested in local democracy, but this event showed that there are many people who are. I was impressed with the turnout and the wide range of questions asked.

“It was a chance for people to see that we are normal people like them, and we want to know what it is they are interested in. There were issues raised that I’m keen we follow up on, as it seems we have room to improve in certain areas. I’d be keen to have more events like this as there is obviously demand for it.”

Panellists did not know the questions beforehand, and any questions not answered on the night, will be answered within 10 days.
