Hounslow Gets New Borough Commander

Chief Superintendent David Bilson takes over at the top

Hounslow's new Borough Commander Chief Superintendent David Bilson took over the reigns this week filling the vacancy left when Ali Dizaei moved to Hammersmith & Fulham.

Originally from West London, David Bilson joined the MPS in 1978. He has substantial Borough experience, mostly in operational duties including Marylebone, Notting Hill, Kensington, Southall and Barnet.

In 1992 David studied at Middlesex University where he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and then returned to uniform duties at Southall in the role of Operational Duty Inspector. He later took over as Sector Inspector which gave him the responsibility for the overall policing of the ‘Old’ Southall area and Norwood Green, just beyond Hounslow Borough.

David was then promoted to Chief Inspector in 1998 and was attached to the NW Area Complaints Unit, working in the Islington area. He then moved to New Scotland Yard where he worked on developing policy on the Leadership Programme and on issues relating to performance management. He was then promoted to Superintendent and posted to Barnet Borough in July 2001. During this time his responsibilities included business and performance management, crime reduction projects in partnership with other local agencies and community groups.

On promotion to Chief Superintendent in 2004, David was attached to Territorial Policing Headquarters which supports policing in each of the 32 Boroughs of London before returning to New Scotland Yard to support organisational performance projects.

David has recently returned from a secondment to the Police Executive Research Forum in Washington, DC, USA, where he was a senior research fellow looking at policing issues, operations and solutions, including counter terrorism, violence and police agency management.

David said, “I am delighted to be joining a team with a record as successful as Hounslow Police and I look forward to leading them and the privilege of serving all the people living and working on Hounslow Borough.”
