Council wants to improve tube services and reduce road accidents

Hammersmith and Fulham residents are being asked to give their views on a new transport plans being proposed by the council.

The council has launched a four week consultation on its Local Transport Plan,  which mainly looks at the transport issues facing the borough between next year and 2014, but which also looks as far ahead as 2031!

The draft plan sets out seven key objectives for the local transport network and if adopted will help Transport for London to decide how to allocate its funds.

The plans commit the council to "supporting improvements and increased capacity on the District, Piccadilly and West London lines" and also argues that promoting Old Oak Common as a high-speed rail-hub is a significant priority.

Paths would be "decluttered" and more trees planted on the borough’s streets, if the plans are approved.

These are part of the key aims which include improving the efficiency of the road network, reducing the number of people injured and killed on the borough’s streets and supporting population growth in the borough's five major regeneration sites, which are White City, Earls Court/West Kensington, Hammersmith Town Centre, Fulham Riverside and Old Oak Common.

Cllr Nick Botterill, Cabinet Member for Environment, says:        " Even when budgets are tight there are transport issues that needs addressing – like traffic congestion hot-spots and utility company road works – and there are also some very positive opportunities that can be seized if we plan ahead.

" Our main focus is to deliver value for money while improving the borough’s transport system and it is now up to local people to let us know what they think of these draft proposals."
