A seal was spotted swimming in the Thames close to Putney Bridge on Tuesday afternoon, 31 July.
Julia Day from Brighton, who posted this video of the seal said it was feeding at the time.
Sixty years ago the Thames was deemed ‘biologically dead’, but it appears that seals are returning to our city’s river.
In 2013 a porpoise was spotted up stream from Putney and in 2011 another porpoise was found dead by Chiswick in 2011.
If you spot a seal or another marine mammal you should report it to the ZSL Thames Marine Mammal Survey.
