Hammersmith and Fulham's Mayor Cllr Michael Cartwright and Mayoress Rosemary Petitt visited the Barons Court Project for its annual summer barbecue and open day last Saturday, and gave their support to its an appeal to refurbish its shower room.

The pair met a number of users of the Talgarth Road charity, which offers support and a drop-in service for rough sleepers or those living with mental health problems.

The project is one of Cllr Cartwright's chosen Mayoral charities, along with H&F Foodbank.

"Barons Court Project has turned around the lives of those in need for the past 32 years," said Cllr Cartwright. "Supporting their appeal to refurbish their shower facility is just one way we can help their invaluable work."

The Mayor and Mayoress also spoke with charity director, Michael Angus, who explained more about the organisation’s work.

He said: "We were delighted they were able to come and spend time with us and enjoy our hospitality."

He added: "The shower room is the first thing rough sleepers ask for – and is the start to getting someone off the streets."

The Co-op has raised £8,000 for the works – but another £12,000 is needed to refurbish the room.

Donations for the shower room appeal can also be sent to Barons Court Project, 69 Talgarth Road, W14 9DD with cheques made payable to Barons Court Project Ltd.

Supporters can also become a Friend of Barons Court Project. In return for a minimum donation of just £5 per month, they receive regular updates of the group’s work via the Barons Bugle newsletter, and are invited to an annual event to meet service users and see first-hand the great work they are helping to support.

The Barons Court Project, a registered charity, provides a day centre for people who are street homeless or living with mental health problems in Hammersmith and Fulham. Practical services include showers, laundry & cost price meals; as well as life skills training and one-to-one support sessions.
