Zero-emission Delivery Service Arrives in Town Centre

Parcels Not Pollution will serve Hammersmith's top businesses using electric bikes

A new zero-emission delivery service is being launched in Hammersmith this month, with some of our biggest businesses including Disney, Medidata, GE and The Lyric aready signed up.

Hammersmith BID has been awarded £50,000 in funding from Transport for London for the service, Parcels Not Pollution which will use electric cargo bikes.

The project aims to reduce traffic, ease congestion and improve air quality in Hammersmith town centre, and will be delivered in partnership with H&F Council and 'zero emission last mile delivery' specialist e-cargo bikes.

The Parcels Not Pollution clean air delivery service will launch on Monday 16 September. Goods will arrive at the e-cargobikes.com warehouse in Ladbroke Grove and if they arrive by 3pm, will be delivered to their destination on the same day, with no difference in the service to the customer and no extra delivery cost.

The project's designated Hammersmith driver will service the area from 10am – 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Hammersmith BID says it will reduce the number of freight vehicles on the roads in Hammersmith, particularly at peak times. Using electric cargo bikes is a more sustainable way to deliver goods in the local area, enabling businesses to receive and sort deliveries at a single location.

Deliveries and servicing are vital to London’s economy. Half the value of household expenditure, around £79 billion, relies strongly on road freight.

However, goods vehicle movements in the capital have increased by around 20% since 2010, contributing to poor air quality, congestion and road danger. Many freight movements are made during the morning peak, when there are higher numbers of vulnerable road users.

Hammersmith BID, or Business Improvement District, is a not-for-profit company committed to helping the local environment.

It says by keeping diesel and petrol vehicles away from our streets, we can lower pollution levels in the air we breathe and by using e-cargobikes instead of vans, we will be helping to create streets that are cleaner, safer and less congested.

Patricia Bench, Hammersmith BID Director, says: " We are delighted to have been awarded this funding which will help us achieve our objectives to reduce the number of, and emissions from, freight and goods vehicles in our town centre. We look forward to working together with TfL and our partners to achieve these goals."
