Hammersmith Man Fined for Dumping Waste at Beauty Spot

H&F Council also clamping down on fly tipping in local area

Mohammed Al Haddad, a 34 year-old man from St Peters Grove in Hammersmith has been fined after pleading guilty to fly tipping at a beauty spot in Buckinghamshire.

High Wycombe Magistrates Court was told that at 20 minutes past midnight on 20 November last year, Mr Al Haddad was filmed by a hidden camera installed by investigators from the Waste Partnership.

Images were taken of a passenger from Mr Al Haddad's van dumping a significant quantity of waste at the side of the road at The Gore in Burnham.

His solicitor told the court that Mr Al Haddad was paid to transport the bags of waste by a customer who travelled with him. The customer told Mr Al Haddad to pull over in The Gore, and proceeded to dump the bags by the roadside.

On investigation, it was found that the bags contained waste generated from the production of cannabis.

Giving credit for an early guilty plea, the magistrates fined Mr Al Haddad £584, ordered him to pay £1,000 towards the council’s costs, and levied a victim surcharge of £58. The total to pay was £1,642.

South Bucks District Council Cabinet Member for Environment Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: "This man was hired as a driver with a van, and ended up being complicit in fly tipping carried out by his customer. With our 24/7 surveillance cameras deployed at numerous fly tipping hotspots, anyone in charge of a vehicle that is involved in illegal dumping should be aware that they could well end up in court".

Closer to home, Hammersmith & Fulham Council has also been clamping down on fly tipping, after its CCTV team has caught a huge pile of waste being dumped in Lerry Close, West Kensington on 29 July. A suspect has since been arrested and their vehicle seized.

H&F Council is now working alongside the Met Police to put a case together to prosecute the suspected dumper.

"We will not tolerate fly tipping like this in H&F," said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

"This is another great result and another step in our journey to becoming the greenest borough in the country. Thanks go to our CCTV team and the Met Police for their great teamwork."
