Shepherd's Bush Housing Group offers support
Local women experiencing domestic violence are being offered support by the Shepherd's Bush Housing Group (SBHG).
Women in Hammersmith and Fulham will be able to meet a support worker and receive advice about local women's services, in special domestic violence support sessions in the Borough.
Rose Hircock, supported housing manager at SBHG, said: “Domestic violence affects not just the women and their children but also the whole community. It’s a social issue and the support we provide helps reduce repeat incidents and preventing housing breakdown and homelessness.”
According to the national domestic violence charity Women’s Aid, one in four women experience domestic violence at some point in their lifetime. Less than half report it to the police, but police still receive one domestic violence call every minute in the UK.
Speaking anonymously, one woman who has received support from SBHG, said: “I think the support I have received has been fantastic and invaluable. Without the help from our support worker, I know myself and my children would not have survived.”
SBHG provides support services related to domestic violence across west London boroughs, including providing refuge accommodation, safe houses, support, counselling and peer support.
