Council Proposes 'Quietway' Cycle Path through Shepherd's Bush

A new 'quietway' a new cycle path that uses leafier routes and avoids busy main roads is being proposed by H&F Council.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council has launched a consultation to get residents' views on the proposed new path, which would run through Shepherd's Bush, linking East Acton to West Kensington.

The route would use backstreets, parks and roads with fewer cars to provide a route that is less intimidating to beginner, or returning cyclists. It is designed to help make the borough’s streets safer not only for those on two wheels, but also for pedestrians and motorists.

The route would run from Mitre Road to Du Cane Road in White City, using existing paths and estate roads. It would form part of an alternative east-west cycle route crossing the borough from East Acton to West Kensington.

The scheme would require changes to the junction of Mitre Way and Scrubs Lane in White City. There would also be a new entrance into Wormwood Scrubs and the improvement of the cycle tracks running to, and alongside the Linford Christie Stadium.

The proposals also include changes to Fitzneal Street to stop lorries from using the road and improvements to the Du Cane Road pedestrian crossing.

The closing date for comments is the 30 August 2016, so make sure you’ve shared your views before then.

If supported, construction for the quietway could take place in early 2017.

"We are determined to make the borough a safer place to cycle, walk and drive and to improve air quality," said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

"To do this we need to remove the barriers that prevent people from cycling safely. This quietway would do that while providing for those who prefer to ride at a more leisurely pace.

"But we’d love to know what residents think of the plans, so please make sure you take part in the consultation and share your views with us."
