A Polish criminal who was among 16 men named as Europe's most wanted fugitives has been found hiding out in Shepherd's Bush.

Tomasz Galas, 28 was found at a home in St Stephen's Avenue on May 25 after officers from Shepherd's Bush Safer Neighbourhood Team and the Extradition Unit from Scotland Yard responded to a tip-off.

He is wanted for the attempted rape of a woman in October 2001 in Radom, Poland. He held a knife to the victim's throat and ripped her clothes off before being disturbed by passers-by.

The Polish national was sentenced for drug smuggling, human trafficking, robbery and fraud in Poland between 1999 and 2003.

In 2009, Crimestoppers named Galas as one of Europe's 16 most wanted fugitives when it launched an international public appeal to track them down.

Galas is now being held at Wandsworth Prison awaiting extradition.
