But It's No to Redeveloping Nomis Studios
Plans for 52 homes deemed "overdevelopment of the site"
An application to redevelop the former Nomis Studios in Sinclair Road, Olympia, where stars such as Tina Turner and Dire Straits have recorded, has been refused by Hammersmith and Fulham Council's planning applications committee.
The plan was described on the application form as:
" Redevelopment of the site comprising the erection of a part three storey, part five storey building over two basement levels, together with the erection of a part one storey, part two storey (over two basement levels) building to the rear of the site; refurbishment and conversion of 53 Sinclair Road, in connection with provision of 52 residential units; retention of the 'arch' feature on Hofland Road; related landscaping and the provision of 41 car parking spaces at sub-basement level, following demolition of the existing buildings at 45 - 51 Sinclair Road."
However it was deemed an "overdevelopment of the site" by the council’s planning officers and neighbours, including the Sinclair, Milson and Hofland Roads' Residents' Association were in agreement, sending over 40 letters objecting to the plans.
The proposed scheme is being called The Sanctuary by developer Regal Homes, as it was owned by Sanctuary Records in the 1980s. Previous applications, including one to build a slightly larger scheme and another to build student flats, were also rejected.
This application was one of a number considered by the planning applications committee on May 8. In Shepherd's Bush, plans for a two story extension to Westfield, and a development of 25 new homes in Goldhawk Road were given the go ahead.
In Hammersmith, the committee approved two developments in Shepherd's Bush Road - a three storey extension to the Access Self Storage building opposite Brook Green and an application by Wagamama, the Japanese restaurant and noodle bar, to refurbish The Old Fire Station.
