Local rallies cheered by passers by
Hammersmith and Fulham returned to normal on December 1 after hundreds of public service workers joined the nationwide Day of Action on November 30.
Hundreds of council workers and teachers joined the walkout, causing the majority of schools and libraries in the borough to close.
Representatives of UNISON, the NUT and other public service unions also formed picket lines and staged rallies outside Hammersmith Town Hall and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
People walking by cheered them on and motorists tooted their horns in support of the protestors, who are angry at government plans to raise the retirement age.
However, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital was relatively unaffected by the strike, with appointments and planned appointments going ahead as usual. Other council services including bin collection and street sweeping also continued as normal.
