Great White Feather Mystery is Solved!

It's all down to the Piccadilly Circus Circus

Hundreds of residents across Hammersmith and Fulham have been puzzled this week to discover their gardens strewn with white feathers.

And we aren't the only ones - feathers have been spotted floating as far away as Surbiton in Surrey.

Theories about the cause ranged from war breaking out in the pigeon community to someone somewhere organising a mass pillow fight.

In fact, the perpetrators were Les Studios de Cirque, a French circus troupe who presented the UK premiere of their show Place des Anges in Piccadilly Circus as part of the London 2012 Festival.

The Piccadilly Circus Circus, as it was dubbed, saw performers soaring 110ft over the audience on three zip wires releasing one and a half tonnes of feathers onto the crowds - and the steets - below.

Apparently they were asking the question: what would happen if angels landed on Earth?

The show, created by Stephane Girard and founder of cult circus troupe Archaos, Pierrot Bidon, followed a day of circus-themed events that saw more than 250 artists from 17 nations performing spectacular aerial stunts across twelve stages.

London Mayor Boris Johnson also put in an appearance, although this time he steered clear of zip wires.
