'Fantastic Results' for Hammersmith Academy's Founding Year

Head congratulates A Level students who joined the school on opening day in 2011

At Hammersmith Academy in Cathor Road, this year's A Level results were particularly significant, as they were sat by the school's founding year students, who joined in Year 7 when it opened in 2011.

The founding year certainly didn't disappoint, with 45% students achieving A* to B, 75% A* to C, and all students passing all subjects.

Subjects where students achieved most success included English literature, maths, history, sociology and media.

The school also achieved its first Oxbridge placement.

After achieving A* in economics and As in maths and geography, Amari Drysdale, pictured above, is heading to Oxford University to read economics and management.

"I’m so grateful all that hard work has paid off – what you put in is truly what you get out," he said.

Among other high flyers, Umut Halil is heading to UCL to study maths after achieving A*s in maths and further maths, as well as an A in physics, Nadim Choudhury gained As in psychology, sociology and economics and will study social sciences at UCL and Lauren Daly, heading to Durham University to study archaeology after achieving Bs in English, geography and sociology.

Headteacher Gary Kynaston, pictured below with his students said: "We are all over the moon with the outstanding results our students have achieved this year.

"This cohort of A-Level students were our founding Year 7 students when the Academy opened.

" For our first Oxbridge place to be attained, along with the large number of secured Russell Group university places, is a real testament to the Academy’s approach to a well-rounded education.

"From day one we have instilled the belief that any student can succeed with hard work and a professional approach to their studies.

"I thank our staff for their unwavering dedication and to the parents who have supported their children and the Academy."
