Victoria George has been announced as the Green Party candidate for the next general election in the Brentford and Isleworth constituency.Tony Firkins to stand for the Green Party in the general election in Feltham and Heston

Tony Firkins has been selected to represent the Green Party in the Feltham and Heston constituency - Tony also stood in the 2015 and 2017 elections for the same seat.

The party believes there will be a snap general election called this year.

Victoria has lived in Brentford for twenty years. Her background is in public health education and policy. She also worked at a major London hospital overseeing patient complaints and clinical audit. Later in her career she was a mentor to young people with emotional and behavioural barriers to learning at Brentford School for Girls.

With her background in NHS management and her strong commitment to her local community, Victoria feels she is well-placed to represent Brentford and Isleworth.

She says that Government action on the climate emergency has to be faster and more radical. "And we must tackle the damage done by years of austerity, damage that in my view plays a big part in the crisis we are in with Brexit."

She is a campaigner against Heathrow expansion and says ‘ The community should not have to put up with more noise and traffic, and expansion contradicts UK climate change commitments."

On Brexit, Victoria says ;‘The Green Party believes people should have a vote on the final deal including the option of remaining in the EU. But whatever is decided we are still facing the climate emergency, as well as all the social problems that such an unequal society gives rise to."

Tony has lived in Brentford for over 30 years. Until recently he worked for a mobile phone network operator, specializing in the overall reliability of the service and the IT systems that make it all work. Tony now concentrates his time on the Green Party’s climate and energy policies.

His major environmental interest is in climate change and he has worked for some time with the Green Party to develop policies to help prevent catastrophic damage from global warming. He instigated a petition to Hounslow Council earlier this year which lead to the declaration of a Climate Emergency in the borough. He argues vociferously for new developments in the borough and across the UK to be genuinely zero carbon.

In the 2017 general election, the Green Party stood aside for Labour in Brentford and Isleworth in recognition of the unfairness of the ‘first past the post’ system and to help prevent a Tory landslide.
