Renewal of Freedom Passes

Free London Travel for the over 60s

It's that time of year when freedom passes need to be renewed as they all run out at the end of March.

The application form is available online and in Post Offices.

If you are aged 60 years or over and your sole or principal residence is a London borough, you can apply for a Freedom Pass to help you get around London.

The eligible age changes on 6 April 2010. If your 60th birthday falls after this date, please see the state pension advice and table for your eligible date. You can apply up to 14 days ahead of this date.

If you are going in person, these are the weeks to apply:

  • A/B/C/D/E surnames: 4-16 January 2010
  • F/G/H/I/J surnames: 18-23 January
  • K/L/M/N/O surnames: 25-30 January
  • P/Q/R/S/T/U/V/W/X/Y/Z surnames: 1-6 February
  • If you miss your week, please apply 8-13 February

The form is the same for new applications and renewals

  • your new style pass will be valid for five years
  • for additional security, your new pass will include a photograph of you on the card itself rather than on a separate photocard, so you will need to produce a passport-style photograph of yourself before you apply. More about the photo
  • your new card will take up to 10 working days to arrive and will be sent to you in the post.

See Freedom Pass for more details.
