London’s Shakespeare in the Squares will return St Peter’s Square on the border of Hammersmith and Chiswick for one night only on Saturday 8 June.
Shakespeare in the Squares, this year celebrating its seventh anniversary, is a not-for-profit touring theatre company staging a Shakespeare play in London garden squares for one night in each venue every summer. The aim is to provide a showcase for talented young theatre practitioners and introduce audiences to the stars of the future.
This year it is offering a new production of one of Shakespeare’s less performed plays, All’s Well That Ends Well, with a fairytale twist and gypsy swing music. The production will be directed by Sioned Jones.
Helena loves Bertram. Bertram doesn’t want to know. He’s off to the court where life is exciting, off to the wars to win fame and honour. How can Helena possibly win his heart when he’s the rich, handsome Count Rossillon and she’s merely an orphan in his house?
Audiences can find out the answer as they join Helena on her fairytale adventure, march in the Florentine parade and sing and dance to the strains of popular Gypsy Swing tunes.
Dame Judi Dench, Patron of Shakespeare in the Squares says of the play, “A beautiful and complex play rarely performed, summed up by the exquisite line: ‘The web of our life is of a mingled yarn, good and ill together’.”
The performance of All’s Well That Ends Well will begin promptly at 7pm and will be over by approximately 9pm. St Peter’s Square will be open for picnics from 5.30pm.
Tickets cost £31.56 including booking fee for adults and £19.97 for students with children under 21 getting in for £15.76.
