Open studio and garden in aid of Interact a huge success

The open studio and garden party in aid of InterAct Reading Service held on Sunday 22 May exceeded all expectations of both the organisers and the charity itself.

Spring Fling on Emlyng Road raised over £4,500 for InterAct Reading – the charity which provides professional actors to read to stroke patients in hospitals and in stroke clubs - with remarkable results.

“It was such a privilege to see so many people enjoying themselves in the garden” said Joanna Brendon who hosted the event.

There was a wonderful atmosphere, largely created by the line-up of brilliant musicians throughout the day. Milos Milivojevic (accordion) and Harriet Mackenzie (violin) opened the day with a flourish; they were followed by Dolce Divas 4 (2 flutes, keyboard and cello), The Squirrels, whose infectious folk music got people dancing and Pakaw, the all-female combo whose Greek music also got people celebrating on the lawn.

Interspersed were three brilliant singer-songwriters: Flora Henderson and Jocie Juritz, two young artists with a promising future and Alisha Sufit, (whom many may remember from The Magic Carpet in the 70s. Apart from the music, there was art by over 25 artists, an amazing array of cakes (all made by local volunteers) delicious pork “flingers” provided by Chiswick Dinners and Wyndham House, jewellery and a Raffle.

Several of the stalls were manned by familiar faces: Stephanie Turner (Juliet Bravo amongst many other roles) was on Bric-a-Brac, and Christopher Ravenscroft could be seen amongst the plants and produce.

The Flingers would like to send a big thank you to everyone who helped to make the event happen and to the hundreds who supported it.
