Tough Kids Aquathlon
It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce the running of the “Tough Kids Aquathlon” as part of “Swim Stock” here at The Park Club on Saturday 21st May, 8.30am am – 10am. The event is open to all children and teenagers from the ages of 4 – 16years old. The event will be fun and relaxed and will be the perfect opportunity for your children to experience a new fun sport without the pressures of some of the larger scale events. In conjunction with this we have decided to use this opportunity to help raise money for the “Marie Curie Cancer Research Charity” so will be kindly asking for a minimum donation of £10 per child on the day.
Tough Kids (and their parents) can secure their place by calling the Club Reception on 020 8743 4321 and providing their name, age and email address (the latter so we can keep in touch) and making a minimum donation of £10. This minimum donation will also entitle you to:
• Complimentary access to the ParkStock Music Festival & spectator areas
• Exclusive Aquathlon Wrist band
• Limited edition Swim Stock T-shirt
To create a great atmosphere we encourage all parents to bring as many friends/family along to support their efforts on the day. The more people and children we get participating the better the event will be; you never know we could unearth some real stars of the future!
By order of the “management”, once your place is secured all participants are urged to raise as much sponsorship money as they can using the SWIMSTOCK SPONSOR FORM in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care; a special sur-prize will awarded to the individual and company raising the most dosh!
Prizes and finishers medals will be awarded by Double Olympic Gold Medalist Rebecca Adlington and anyone who impresses us with their efforts on the day!
The goal of the event is to do each element as quickly as possible, including the transition where a quick clothes change is essential.
If you have any queries then please don’t hesitate to speak to Julian in the gym or send him an email at juliann@theparkclub.co.uk
How the Aquathlon will work
Each participant will be required to be entered on the “sign up list” on the gym notice board before the Friday 13th May in their respective age group (age as of the Saturday 21st May 2011).
The week before the event a list will be placed on the gym notice board allocating a time slot for each participant. Youngest age groupers will be first away from 8.30am onwards.
Each participant will be required to turn up at least 15mins before the allocated time slot to be marked with their race number – please do not be late! This will ensure a smooth running of the event.
The event will be continuous (no breaks) and will consist of a swim, short run to transition area (quick change) then out onto the run.
The outdoor pool will be used for the swim, transition will be just behind the sun beds in a sectioned off area, the run is then straight out the back of the grassed area though the open gates and turn right and out onto the old Shepherds Bush cricket pitch. The course will be clearly marked and we will put up maps of the route shortly.
All participants can choose to swim in shorts or swimwear. Socks are optional, trainers must be worn for the run. To run in vest or t-shirt is now optional – new rule!
For 4 –9 year olds parents will be allowed to assist their child in putting on trainers/socks and t-shirt/vest in the transition area.
10 – 16 year old will not be permitted to receive any assistance.
Race Rebecca
We are delighted to welcome a double Olympic gold medalist to The Park Club …yes ladies and gentleman … Miss Rebecca Adlington will be here for the day! Not only will Rebecca be here for you to meet but she will also be launching a new team swimming competition in association with British Gas to inspire you all to get back into the pool; this competition will be called “Race Rebecca” and is open to all members no matter what your ability. Please note that teams will be selected at random to ensure fairness.
How will Race Rebecca work and how do you sign up?
As some of you will already know, Rebecca is the current Olympic Champion for the 400m freestyle event with a personal best time of 4:00:79.
Your goal in your team will be to swim 400m as part of an 8-person team (50m per adult) or 16-person team (25m per child), just post the quickest time you can manage. This will mean that each person gets to swim only 50m per adult or 25m per child in total making it a manageable distance for people of all abilities.
You can do any stroke you like, there are no restrictions.
To ensure fairness these teams will be selected at random from a sign up list on reception.
All you need to be able to do is to swim either 50m or 25m and don’t worry how long it takes, this competition is all about mass participation and remembering how fun swimming can be. It will also give you the motivation to get back in the pool and dust off your swimming costumes!
There will be a children’s and adults' race and the prize for the best teams will be to race against Rebecca over 400m in what promises to be an amazing Grand Final; I hope you agree that this will be an incredible opportunity to say that you’ve raced against a double Olympic gold medalist!
Sign up will be on reception. Please be sure to leave your full contact details – most importantly your name and email address so we can keep in contact with updates about the event.
Members can secure their place by calling the Club Reception on 020 8743 4321 and providing their name, age and email address (the latter so we can keep in touch) and making a minimum donation of £15 per under 18 year old and £25 per over 18. This minimum donation will also entitle you to:
• Complimentary access to the ParkStock Music Festival & spectator areas
• Exclusive Race Rebecca Silicon Wrist band
• Limited edition Swim Stock T-shirt
By order of the “management”, once your place is secured all participants are urged to raise as much sponsorship money as they can using the SWIMSTOCK SPONSOR FORM in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care; a special sur-prize will awarded to the individual and company raising the most dosh!
It is essential you sign up as early as possible to guarantee a place. Standard entry will be closed on Friday 13th May so teams can be selected. We will then contact you with your team details and what time you are due to start. Please sign up as early as possible to avoid disappointment. As places are limited, we will create a waiting list once all places are taken.
The event starts at 10.30 am.
Contacts for the Race Rebecca event are Julian Nagi and Rob Clarke. If you have any queries please feel free to email them at: Juliann@theparkclub.co.uk and Rob@theparkclub.co.uk
