London Mela Celebrates Ten Years

Free festival in Gunnersbury Park this weekend

This year’s London Mela will be held in Gunnersbury Park on Sunday 19th August.

It’s the festival's 10th birthday and the plan is to celebrate in style with a spectacular carnival, a photographic exhibition of the Mela’s history and a concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra.

They’ll be plenty of activities, attractions, shows and music throughout the day in nine separate entertainment zones.

The Main Stage features Jaz Dhami and a live band, with more acts to be announced.

The Mix Tent will have music from BBC Asian Network DJs.

BBC Introducing showcases some of the hottest new talent in the UK curated by DJ Bobby Friction.

Sensational Outdoor Arts features special guests Red Poppies an all ladies drumming group from China. Red Poppies have an internationally renowned reputation and have performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.

The Community & Kids zone will have plenty of activities and fun for younger visitors as well as the 'In conversation with' tent hosting interviews with artists, performers and guests at the Mela.

There will also be a food market, stalls and exhibitors and a fun-fair.
