Sea, surfing and pirates - join Ealing Libraries' Reading Voyage

Children aged 6 - 14 invited to jump on board

Ealing Council's Library and Information Service is running a series of fun maritime-themed events for children this summer as part of this year's Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge commences Monday 18 July and runs until Saturday 10 September 2005 and this year's theme is the 'Reading Voyage'.   It is open to anyone aged between 6 and 14 years old and participation is free.

The challenge involves borrowing and reading up to six books during the summer, with children collecting stickers for each book they read.   At the end of the summer they will receive a certificate recording their achievement and a medal if they have completed the challenge.

In addition, Ealing's libraries will host a number of events linked to the 'Readers Voyage' maritime theme throughout the month of August.   A small cost of £1 will apply to these events and tickets are available from each library two weeks before the event.

There will also be a prize draw, with free family tickets to Chessington World of Adventures to be won, where children can enjoy the 'Pirates Cove', with its exciting high seas rides.   All of the borough's libraries will have special collections of books and plenty of quizzes and colourings to keep children busy.
