Magic of Meccano casts its spell at Steam Museum

Relive your youth amongst some mega models

Are kids spending too much time in front of the TV, or playing computer games? Why not bring them down to the Magic of Meccano show, at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April, and reignite both theirs and your passion for real play.

Come down and be amazed at over 100 fascinating working Meccano models, filling every available gallery in the museum, including a 22ft 1930s Bennie Railplane. Exhibitors from as far as Marseilles in the south of France, and Brussels in Belgium will be demonstrating an array of models including fire engines, tanks, tractors, trains, cars, bridges, a 6ft model of a traction engine and a 6ft high working model of our 90-inch Cornish beam engine, as well as a floating crane and even aeroplanes, all made of Meccano - some driven by steam!

There will a 'hands on' area for children, inviting them to have a go at making their own Meccano masterpiece. Visitors, both new and experienced in Meccano modelling, can indulge their hobby or interest further and be able to discuss tricks of the trade with resident experts. They will be a variety of stalls supplying the Meccano modeller with all the necessary materials for purchase, including a wide range of models, kits, drawings, photographs, specialist books and magazines and other related merchandise.

Kew's waterworks railway loco "Cloister", run by the Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Society, will be giving free rides in a passenger coach around the site railway during the weekend. The museum invites families and people of all ages to come and enjoy a day out with us - arrive early, stay late - an event not to be missed!
