Museum closing for major restoration work
To celebrate its forthcoming restoration, Gunnersbury Park Museum will be holding a special guided tour of the large mansion's Victorian kitchens on Wednesday, 25 February.
This is residents’ last chance to gain exclusive access to the historic kitchens, before they close for a major restoration project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Gunnersbury Park is jointly owned and managed by Ealing and Hounslow councils, which are leading the scheme as part of a wider regeneration of the park.
These tours will give visitors an insight of what life was like for a Victorian servant, receiving behind-the-scenes access to the cold rooms, scullery, main kitchens and the chef’s room.
The guided tour will take place at Gunnersbury Park Museum on Wednesday, 25 February between 2- 3pm. Tickets cost £3 per person and must be booked in advance. Tickets are limited, so people should book early to avoid disappointment.
Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “I think this tour is a wonderful opportunity for residents to step back in time and experience what a Victorian kitchen was like and see what they cooked and the different types of cooking utensils they used.
“This will be residents’ last chance to view the Victorian kitchen, while the museum is closed for a major restoration project. Gunnersbury Park Museum is an architectural treasure with amazing collections and the project will transform it into a first class visitor attraction for everyone to enjoy.”
