Series of Artistic Workshops to Be Held at Gunnersbury Park

Part of a season of events anticipating the full reopening of the park and museum

A new season of events and workshops is planned at Gunnersbury Park in the coming weeks. It sees the introduction of creative adult learning workshops led by local artists taking inspiration from the expansive gardens of Gunnersbury.

This in anticipation of the full reopening of the park and museum and launch of the new “not for profit” community organisation, Gunnersbury CIC, later this year.

Renowned mosaic artists Carrie Reichardt, who is based in Chiswick, and Karen Wydler , will lead a one-day mosaic workshop on Saturday 9 September. Both artists take a contemporary art approach to their work by blurring the lines between craft and activism. Participants will learn how to create ceramic mosaics and use the impact of human activity on nature as inspiration for their very own creative pieces.

On Monday 2 September Bill Hudson and Acton-based Tim Norris will deliver a one-day woodcarving workshop for adults where participants will use a range of hand tools to create an original art work inspired by nature in the park. Tim and Bill have been creating nature themed benches and a series of play sculptures for the park for over a year inspired by the heritage of Gunnersbury and the museum’s collections.

Local photographer Maggi Marmion will run a digital photography workshop for beginners and improvers on Saturday 14 October. Maggi has been documenting the changes of both the museum and the parkland over the course of the restoration. All participants will need is their camera for this half day workshop which offers tips and advice on taking photographs as they venture around the park.

Over the autumn they’ll also be running children’s creative workshops, exploring the rich natural environment of Gunnersbury with a series of nature walks, including a “Bat walk” and they will be offering more folk music and a chance to go behind in the large mansion as park of Open House in September.
