Big Tree Plant project aims to plant one million trees within four years

The day for volunteers to help in the planting of trees in the Park has been moved to Saturday 2nd February.

The work will be from 11 am to 3 pm, and everyone will meet at the entrance to the Park opposite Lionel Road School.

It is part of the Big Tree Plant project – to plant one million trees within four years.

If you volunteer you will feel good about adding to the tree belt in the Park and healthier for having done some vigorous exercise. All equipment is provided, but bring your own spade and forks if you have them. Please wear warm, waterproof clothes and sturdy shoes or wellies.

From 11am on the same day, people are invited to take part in a community gardening event at Gunnersbury Park as part of the nation-wide Big Tree Plant. Around 200 trees are expected to be planted along the eastern boundary of the park, which will attract more wildlife and provide shade and protection. Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Everyone is welcome to come along to these two fantastic events. By taking part you'll help to improve our local area, while meeting other people. All you need is some wellies, a bit of enthusiasm, and the willingness to learn about local wildlife and vegetation."
