Are You On For A Dry January?

National charity Alcohol Concern encourages you to give your body a break after the festivities

Dry January is run by the national charity Alcohol Concern, supported by Public Health England, and encourages people to take a break from drinking alcohol. The aim is for people to give their bodies a chance to recover from the Christmas and new year festivities and reflect on their drinking habits longer term.

Wandsworth is promoting Dry January through its Alcohol Alliance; a partnership made up of council staff including public health, community safety, licensing, trading standards and service commissioners together with the NHS and the police. Alliance members are working together to reduce the harm that drinking excessively can cause.

The chairman of the Alcohol Alliance, Cllr Jim Maddan OBE, said:
“The Alliance is encouraging local residents to take a break from alcohol as it will improve your health, save you money and help you lose weight. It’s easy to let drinking levels creep up, so Dry January is a chance to press the ‘reset’ button and reflect on how much, and why, you drink.”
