New dark comedy produced through crowdfunding at Barons Court Theatre
Produced by a new company, Root Productions, Pizza Man is a dark comedy about two flatmates living in Manhattan.
Co-produced and acted by Olivia Lindsay and Minnie Murphy, who raised the money to put it on at Barons Court Theatre through crowdfunding, the play by Darlene Craviotto reveals the two young women's struggles.
On a hot summer evenings, the flatmates come home to find themselves equally defeated. But the night becomes increasingly emotional and chaotic until the moment comes when they are given an opportunity for revenge - which then forces the women to question their identity.
Olivia and Minnie say: "This play is especially important to us as it highlights the expectations society has imposed upon women in the past. Despite its, at times, satirical form, Craviotto reveals the suffering, anxiety and objectification of women in the 80s at home and at work. As the play goes on, we discover the measures some women will take in their desperation for control and respect. Sadly women still face these issues today.
"Root Productions founders met while training at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, the oldest Acting Conservatory in the English speaking world. This will be the first UK production of Pizza Man. The sharp and witty dialogue will make you laugh out loud, yet it's controversial plot will be sure to turn a few heads! We love this play and hope you will too!"
Pizza Man continues nightly until Sunday 19 February at 7.30 p.m with an additional matinee on Saturday 18 February at 1.30 p.m.
