New Overnight Closures On Hammersmith Flyover

Drivers advised to plan ahead this weekend

Transport for London has announced closures on the Hammersmith Flyover.

Hammersmith Flyover weekend westbound closure

• Weekend maintenance to waterproof a small section of the flyover
• Drivers advised to plan ahead this weekend and allow more time for journeys

This weekend the Hammersmith Flyover will be closed westbound overnight and reduced to one lane in the daytime to allow Transport for London (TfL) to waterproof a small section of the flyover.

A fault with a small section of the waterproofing was recently found during one of these routine checks. By fixing this promptly, TfL says it will ensure that the flyover remains safe and reliable for years to come.

The work is planned to take place on the weekend of Friday 12 – Monday 15 August. The flyover will be closed to westbound traffic during the night and a single westbound lane will be closed during the day. The carriageway will remain fully open to eastbound traffic throughout the weekend. Road users are advised to plan ahead, consider alternative routes and allow more time for their journeys during the work.

Nick Fairholme, Director of Projects and Programmes in Surface Transport at TfL, said: “We apologise to users of the Hammersmith Flyover who will be affected by this weekend’s work. We will do everything we can to minimise disruption and advise road users to plan their journeys to help reduce disruption and apologise for any delays caused during this work.”

Full westbound closure:
• Friday 12 August 22:30 - Saturday 13 August 06:00
• Saturday 13 August 22:30 - Sunday 14 August 06:00
• Sunday 14 August 22:30 - Monday 15 August 05:00

Single westbound lane closure:
• Saturday 13 August 06:00 - 22:30
• Sunday 14 August 06:00 - 22:30

If due to unforeseen circumstances work is unable to be completed this weekend, the following weekend (Friday 19 – Monday 22 August) will be used to finish the work.

In 2015 TfL completed critical refurbishment work on the entire Hammersmith Flyover. Among structural repairs, this included more than 10,000m2 of waterproofing. The section with a fault is approximately 150m2. This will be fixed at no additional cost to TfL.
