Little Simz, a former University of West London(UWL) student, has won Best New Artist at this year’s Brit Awards.

She performed live for some of the biggest names in the industry during the televised ceremony.

The rapper, who came to UWL’s London College of Music (LCM) in Ealing to study Music Management before her career took off, collected her award this week in the biggest annual celebration of British talent.

Little Simz has already made an impact in the music industry, being described as ‘a rapper’s rapper’, and having written, recorded and released four mixtapes, five EPs, and her first studio album – all on her own label - by the age of 21.

Taking to the stage at Tuesday’s (8 February) BRITS, she also performed her hits, ‘Introvert’ and ‘woman’ before celebrating four award nominations and the impressive win with her family.

Celebrating her achievements and ongoing success, Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UWL, said the whole University was behind Little Simz as she continues to make her mark in the global music industry.

“This is an absolutely incredible achievement for one of our former students and we are so proud of how much she has achieved,” he said.

“Since leaving UWL to focus on her career, she has achieved so much as a musician and a woman in the that industry and we wish her all the best as she continues to build on this success.”
