Stacey to Stand Down

Conservative councillor to make way for new leader

Former Ealing Council Leader Jason Stacey has announced he will be bowing out of local politics.

Mr Stacey has been the leader of the Ealing Conservatives since 2004 and took charge of the authority in 2006 when his party won the local election - they lost power to Labour this year.

Mr Stacey, has represented Greenford Green ward since 2002 and says he won't be standing in the borough's next election in 2014.

'' I did feel that after seven years as Leader it was time to step aside and enable someone else to take the Group forward especially as I have decided not to stand again at the next set of local elections in Ealing in 2014.

''It seemed to me to be right and proper that a new Leader be elected and given sufficient time to get the Group ready for these elections.''

An internal contest for their new head will be held at the party's AGM on April 18. Candidates have up to a week beforehand to put their names forward.
