Politicians in a Box For Charity

Sleeping out to raise funds for the YMCA

Ealing councillors joined a group of other hardy souls who braved the elements and slept outdoors to raise money for vulnerable young people last week.

Sleep Easy is a YMCA fundraising initiative which happens up and down the country.

The aim is to spend a night sleeping rough to highlight the issue of youth homelessness and raise vital funds to support the work of your local YMCA. The money goes directly to the local YMCA projects and helping young people in the area.

On Friday (28th Feb) Liberal Democrat Councillors Jon Ball, Gary Malcolm and Andrew Steed, joined other charity fundraisers, wrapped up warm, grabbed a cardboard box and tried to sleep in the centre of Ealing - at Christ the Saviour Church.

Cllr Ball said:

'' "It was a cold night tonight but we had a choice to sleep rough and it was just for one night. Sadly, for many local young people this is a nightly reality. Politicians like ourselves and charitable organisations like YMCA West London need to work together to make homelessness a thing of the past."

''We would like to thank generous local people who sponsored us, raising over £1,000 so far for the West London YMCA.

There is still time to donate.
