Applications for primary in by January 15th
Parents of children due to start infant and primary schools in September 2013 are being urged to return their applications on time.
Children should start primary school in September 2013 if they were born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009.
The cut-off date for both online and paper applications is Tuesday 15 January. All applications received after this date will be treated as late. Last year, everyone who applied before the deadline was offered a place at an Ealing school. Of those, 93% were offered a place at one of their top three schools, with 82% offered their first choice.
The easiest and quickest way to apply is via the www.eadmissions.org.uk website. Paper application forms are also available from Ealing primary schools or by contacting Ealing Council’s admissions service.
Ealing primary school applications are part of the pan-London admissions scheme. Under this ‘one-stop’ system, parents submit one application listing six schools in order of preference, even if some of their preferred schools are outside of the borough.
The council then co-ordinates its offers of school places with other London boroughs, ensuring that no one is offered more than one place. There will be a single, London-wide offer day on Wednesday 17 April when parents across the capital will be sent the outcome of their application.
Councillor Patricia Walker, cabinet member for Children and Young People said: “Like most London boroughs, there is immense pressure on primary school places in Ealing and many schools receive more applications than they have places. That is why it is very important that parents choose six schools on their form. We will always try our best to give children their first choice, but if this isn’t possible, and there are no other preferred schools listed, they may end up with a school that doesn’t suit at all.
“It is also crucial that forms are returned by the deadline. Submitting your application late, even by a day, is likely to affect your child’s chances of being offered a place at one of your preferred schools and seriously affects the council’s ability to plan for the number of school places needed.”
