Ealing Central and Acton MP, Rupa Huq, has been named as the Backbencher of the Year in a awards ceremony held at the House of Commons.
The first ever People’s Awards were set up by event management company Luminary Networks Ltd to honour leading figures and celebrate excellence in the world of politics and business.
Dr Huq received her award on Thursday 6 March with 19 other parliamentarians being honoured including Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra who was named Minister of the Year and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch who became Parliamentarian of the Year.
There were two Backbencher of the Year awards with Kit Malthouse taking the one reserved for MPs in opposition.
Dr Huq, who was also hosting the awards, received praise for her work as MP including her Sale of Tickets (Sporting and Cultural Events) Private Member’s Bill which aims to ensure transparency from ticket merchants and an end to ticket scalping following the Ticketmaster controversy last year.

She also sits on the Culture, Media, and Sport Select Committee, scrutinising the work of creative industries across the country and most recently put questions to the Director-General of the BBC. In addition, she is a member of several All Party Parliamentary Groups, working on a range
of issues from child maintenance to reproductive care and cooperating with cross party members to represent the public interest.
She has been lobbying the Government to improve the efficiency and quality of Elizabeth Line services that run through her constituency.
Dr Huq said, “It was an honour to receive such a prestigious award and to see so many fantastic people being recognised for their hard work across so many different sectors.”
