A community reuse and recycling event will take place in Sotuh Acton this Saturday, marking a new chapter for the former Stirling Road waste depot, which has been gradually repurposed as a sustainability hub since its closure in 2021.

The ReActon Reuse & Recycle Event will run from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 27 September at the Stirling Road site (W3 8DJ), offering a family-friendly programme focused on practical ways to reduce waste. Activities include a school uniform swap, Halloween costume donations, free paint giveaways, clothing drop-offs, and small e-waste collections. Residents can also pick up free food waste bins to support household recycling.

The event is part of Ealing Climate Week and follows a related uniform swap and climate awareness session held at Ealing Council’s Percival House on Thursday 25 September.

Since its closure in November 2021 due to budget constraints, the Stirling Road facility has been rebranded as ReActon and is gradually being transformed into a circular economy centre. While it no longer accepts general household waste, the site now hosts occasional community events focused on reuse, repair, and sustainability. Earlier this summer, it was the venue for a cycling-themed open day featuring pedal-powered tools and second-hand bike sales.

Plans for the site include the development of workshop and training areas, food redistribution zones, and welfare facilities, although construction has yet to begin. In the meantime, ReActon continues to serve as a platform for local initiatives aimed at reducing waste and promoting environmental awareness.

Ealing Council has stated that the site will eventually support repair and reuse of electronics, furniture, and textiles, with opportunities for volunteering and skills development. Residents requiring traditional waste disposal services are directed to the Greenford Recycling Centre, which remains open five days a week.

Saturday’s event is free to attend and open to all. Organisers hope it will encourage residents to rethink waste and make reuse part of everyday life.
