House alarms sound across the area as electricity grid has problem
There was a widespread power cut in Ealing and Acton this Thursday morning (27 September) with hundreds of homes and businesses affected.
Interrupted supply has been reported from the Hanger Hill area to South Acton and alarms were sounding across residential areas as the loss of supply triggered their backups.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said, "Our engineers were alerted to a fault on the main network serving the W3 postcode area at 8.19am this morning. This power cut initially affected 1,151 properties in Meon Road, Newton Avenue, Acton Lane, Leythe Road and surrounding areas in Acton. Customers may have experienced intermittent power as our engineers altered the network by switching sections to restore power to our customers as quickly as they could."
Problems occurred with signalling and passenger information on local train and tube services during the morning and we asked SSEN if the power cut could have been a factor. They said, "This may have affected signalling as the power was restored in stages to our customers, although it would be best to check with the train operators in the area. I can confirm all power was restored this morning at 10.45am."
The SSEN spokesperson added, "“We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused this morning, and thank them for their patience as our engineers worked to restore their power as quickly and as safely as possible.”
Some residents claim that power cuts in the area have become much more common in recent times and this is due to under investment in local infrastructure and rising demand due to increased use of electronic devices.
When asked about the recurrence of power cuts in the area the company said, "We are currently investigating the reference you make to ongoing issues in the area, and will come back to you as soon as we have an answer from our local teams. "
