A Reluctant Resident of Chiswick?

Angie Bray creates a new address for the new constituency

Questions have been raised by her political opponents over whether Ealing Central and Acton Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Angie Bray was right to have accepted funding for her election campaign from the Conservative Party’s controversial donor, Lord Ashcroft.

However, some of her constituents have another query, where exactly does Angie Bray live?

A recent mail shot pictured Angie Bray with her husband in their home in the ‘Southfields area of Ealing’ which other residents would call Bedford Park or Chiswick.

“Most people living where Angie Bray has recently moved in to would certainly consider themselves to be living in either Chiswick or Bedford Park," commented Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jon Ball.

"Ealing Council has over many years had a tendency to ignore this and to work on the erroneous basis that Chiswick lies entirely within Hounslow and therefore that the part of W4 within Ealing Borough must be in Acton.

“Local identities can be a contentious issue and this has tended to alienate people.”

Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Cllr Bassam Mahfouz added, "Chiswick and Acton Green are a part of Ealing borough they have their own identity and ones that the residents are proud of, well it would seem perhaps all but one."

Lord Ashcroft admitted this week that he was a ‘nom-dom’ meaning he does not pay tax to the Government on the majority of his earnings.

Angie Bray has never hidden the fact Lord Ashcroft is funding her election campaign for the newly formed Central Ealing and Acton seat.

In an interview with The Times in 2007 she admitted that she had been allocated a “generous” amount from the fund [multi million pound donation from Lord Ashcroft], believed to be between £15,000 to £20,000.

The tranche received so far has helped to pay for quarterly leaflets and direct mailshots to all households.

“But we only get the money if we have been out canvassing, and we have to show the evidence,” she said.
