Campaigner calls for support from Ealing Council

An Ealing man is petitioning the council to help his bid to turn London into the world's first National Park City.

Geographer, Daniel Raven-Ellison wants the London Mayor to commission a study into the proposal which he says would 'radically change how we see, think about, design, manage and experience the city'.

London is one of the greenest cities in the world - with 13,000 species of wildlife, 3,000 parks, 30,000 allotments, two national nature reserves, 36 sites of special scientific interest and 142 local nature reserves.

Mr Raven-Ellison says the purpose of turning it into 'Greater London National Park' would be similar to other UK National Parks. It would 'conserve and enhance its natural and cultural heritage, promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of London’s green spaces, and foster the economic and social well being of local communities'.

He has already secured the backing of 80 organisations, Northfield ward forum and Kingston Council.

The petition requesting signatures, urges Ealing Council leader, Julian Bell, to support the campaign.
