The Huq's win recognition for their influence and success
Two Ealing sisters have been honoured in a power list celebrating leading British Bangladeshi figures.
Former deputy mayoress Dr Rupa Huq, 41 – who was recently announced as Labour’s candidate for the parliamentary seat of Ealing Central and Acton - was recognised in the “emerging influence” category.
Meanwhile, ex-Blue Peter and Xtra-Factor presenter, Konnie Huq, 38, received an award for her success in the media industry.
The ceremony was a cross-party event addressed by Government Minister Baroness Warsi as well as Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander. London Labour MPs, Stephen Timms and Dame Tessa Jowell, were among those who gave speeches.
Dr Huq, senior lecturer at Kingston University, said:
“I’m delighted to be part of this magnificent event. It’s fantastic to be named as an influential force, even though I see myself as a mum and university lecturer who in many ways is the squeezed middle of Ealing.”
Dr Huq published two books last year, one of which was launched at the Commons.
She will be standing against the current MP Conservative, Angie Bray, and Liberal Democrat candidate, Jon Ball
